Homes in Ione vary from apartments and condos to old Gold Rush era mansions, with golf course living to off the grid rustic ranches. In Ione area you can live on the shore or a lake, in a fertile farming valley, or on golden rolling hills. All within range of Sacramento and Stockton. And in Kaiser service area.

Ione is, by California standards, a small town, but even within that Ione has neighborhoods and developments with different history and charm. Coming from Sacramento, you might not notice it but you come past Eagles Nest, a development centered on pilots, with a community airfield and taxiways to most of the properties. If you are one of the highflying set but want to live in the foothills, yet close to the city, Eagles Nest might be just the place for you.

As you get closer to Bedbug as Ione was once known, you catch glimpses of Preston Castle overlooking the town from the North. You are now passing Castle Oaks on the right. With an award winning Golf course, homes in Castle Oaks offer great values in a commuter range resort community.

When you crest the hill after passing the CDF training facility, you drop in to the town proper. On either side of the highway historic courts, formerly housing for staff at the boys school hide just out of view. But many of the houses lining the street are also of local historic interest. Note the new fire station, Ione’s second, built in 2008-2009. You now will be passing the Ione Shopping center, with groceries, food, the local hardware store, services and a couple of gas stations.

Cross the bridge and turn Left onto Main Street and soak up the small town charm. From the local bank and post office, to the police station/city hall. Three whole blocks of down town bustle. Be sure to drop in at Clark’s Corner for a coffee, or if you have the time, The Twisted Fork (in the Ione Hotel) for dinner (breakfast and lunch also served). Some beautiful restored 1890 homes are in the neighborhood towards the East end of Main Street.
To get to the West Marlette area take the first right on Main Street, three blocks down Buena Vista Street swing an other right and you will be heading towards this nice neighborhood. Investigate this area, close to things but out of the way, homes built in the 1890’s and homes built in the 2000’s even a few parks for manufactured homes.
If you take Church Street South (highway 124 to Stockton) you pass some of Ione’s houses of worship. Up the hill you will see the public cemetery, then Howard Park with all sorts of attractions, from a stage to a skate-park, ball fields and even an equestrian arena. A few shot miles South you will find Jackson Valley and then Camanche Village.

These areas are still considered Ione, and they offer some of the best local real estate possibilities. Weather a nice home lot or a ranchet overlooking the valley, or even a retirement spot near the water. Camanche is a good choice. The fact that Sacramento and Stockton are within good commute range and the relatively low prices in this area make Camanche a good long-term investment. Sad to say it, but sprawl is heading this way.
If you, instead of going into the downtown area of Ione, turn East on highway 124 you will quickly be out of the town and soon heading through wine country, this is the way to Plymouth and its Shenandoah Valley with over 29 wineries. This is the reason we in county like to say “go to NAPA for car parts, come to Amador for wine!”
To get to Jackson from Ione take South Ione Street that turns into highway 104 out to highway 88, many ranches dot the rolling hills between Ione and Jackson.
